Discover Lake Lanier is primarily funded through the collection and redistribution of hotel/motel occupancy taxes.
A portion of the taxes collected are designated by law to be disbursed to the official destination marketing organization of the tax collecting entity.
These funds are used to promote the area to travelers thereby increasing tourist spending in the area where the taxes are collected.
Discover Lake Lanier’s annual program of work runs from July 1st to June 30th and includes a comprehensive marketing and advertising program. Social media, travel media and trade shows also play an important role in the organization’s overall marketing efforts.
Through the year there are opportunities to partner, volunteer and support our programs. A variety of methods are available including advertising in our Slip Away magazine, on our website or along side us in social, print, broadcast and outdoor advertising.

Lodging plays a significant role in destination marketing. Since 2008, Discover Lake Lanier has been a leader in the development of short term (vacation) rentals (STRs) as a major role player in Hall County’s tourism economy.
As a result, our community has a very proactive system for enrolling properties, collecting taxes and reinvesting those dollars into drawing more guests to our STR operators doorsteps.
